Services

Electrical services in Wareham, MA.

From the meter to the charger: residential and commercial electrical work around Buzzards Bay.

From the company's listings

The core work.

Wiring and panel upgrades, commercial wiring and panels, generator installation and EV charging stations are the services Glenn Sass Electrician lists for itself.

01

Panels & service upgrades

A lot of houses around Buzzards Bay still run on the panel they were built with: a fuse box, a 60- or 100-amp breaker panel, or one of the mid-century brands with a poor track record. Add a heat pump, an EV and a kitchen remodel and that panel runs out of room fast. Glenn sizes the service to what the house actually needs, coordinates the disconnect and reconnect with Eversource, pulls the town permit and leaves a panel that is neat, labeled and inspected.

  • Fuse box and obsolete panel replacement
  • 100- to 200-amp service upgrades
  • Meter sockets and service masts weathered by salt air
  • Subpanels for additions, garages and in-law suites
  • Load calculations before new equipment goes in

02

Wiring, rewiring & remodels

Older Capes, converted summer cottages and village homes often carry several generations of wiring at once: ungrounded two-wire circuits, cloth-insulated cable, a few spliced extensions and the occasional run of knob-and-tube. Glenn wires kitchens, baths, basements and additions to the Massachusetts Electrical Code, and when old wiring is found he explains what it is, what it means and what it would take to bring it up to date.

  • Kitchen, bath and basement remodel wiring
  • Additions and finished spaces
  • Replacing ungrounded and cloth-insulated circuits
  • Dedicated circuits for appliances and equipment
  • Wiring for permitted renovations and sales

03

Generator hookups

When a nor'easter takes the lines down, a portable generator keeps the well pump, the furnace, the fridge and a few lights going, but only if it is connected the right way. Glenn installs a proper power inlet with a panel interlock or a transfer switch, so the generator can never backfeed the utility lines and put a lineworker at risk. No extension cords through a window, no suicide cords.

  • Generator power inlets outside the house
  • Panel interlock kits and transfer switches
  • Choosing which circuits to keep on
  • Help sizing a portable generator to the loads
  • Permits and inspection

04

EV charger installation

A Level 2 charger is usually a 40- to 60-amp dedicated circuit, which is a big load for an older panel. Glenn checks the panel and service first, then installs the circuit and charger (or a NEMA 14-50 receptacle where that fits better), indoors or outdoors with weather-rated equipment. If the panel can't take it, he'll lay out the options, from load management to a service upgrade.

  • Hardwired Level 2 chargers
  • 240-volt receptacles for plug-in chargers
  • Garage, driveway and detached-garage installs
  • Panel load checks and upgrades
  • Weather-rated outdoor installs

Everyday electrical work

And the rest of the house.

The repairs and upgrades homes and shops around the bay need between the big projects.

06

Troubleshooting & repairs

A breaker that won't stay on, a string of dead outlets, lights that flicker when the heat kicks in: these have a cause, and it's usually findable. Glenn traces the problem to its source, explains it plainly and fixes it properly instead of swapping parts until something works.

  • Breakers that trip or won't reset
  • Dead or warm outlets and switches
  • Flickering or dimming lights
  • Partial power loss
  • Storm and water damage checks

07

Lighting, outlets & fixtures

From recessed lights in a remodeled kitchen to a ceiling fan in a Cape's low upstairs bedroom, from GFCI protection in the bath to a post light at the end of a sandy driveway. Done neatly, with the right boxes, the right protection and fixtures rated for the location.

  • Recessed and LED lighting
  • Ceiling fans and fixtures
  • GFCI, AFCI and USB outlets
  • Exterior, porch and post lights
  • Switches, dimmers and smart controls

08

Outdoor & shoreline power

Salt air is hard on anything electrical outside. Within a mile or so of the bay, outdoor boxes, meter sockets, receptacles and connections corrode faster than they do inland. Glenn uses weather-resistant devices, in-use covers and the right enclosures, and replaces corroded equipment before it fails.

  • Outdoor GFCI receptacles with in-use covers
  • Hot tub and spa circuits and disconnects
  • Detached garage and shed power
  • Corroded box, receptacle and meter socket replacement
  • Landscape and security lighting

09

Surge protection & safety upgrades

Coastal storms bring lightning and utility switching surges, and today's houses are full of electronics, from heat pump boards to the fridge. A whole-home surge protector at the panel is inexpensive insurance. Glenn also handles hardwired smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, GFCI and AFCI upgrades, and safety repairs found on home inspections.

  • Whole-home surge protection at the panel
  • Hardwired, interconnected smoke and CO alarms
  • GFCI and AFCI protection upgrades
  • Repairs from home inspection reports
  • Grounding and bonding corrections

Heat pump & appliance circuits

Massachusetts homes are moving off oil and propane toward heat pumps, and that moves load onto the panel. Glenn installs the dedicated circuits and disconnects that heat pumps, mini-splits, induction ranges, dryers and well pumps need, and tells you up front if the service needs to grow to carry them.

  • Heat pump and mini-split circuits and disconnects
  • Induction range and oven circuits
  • Dryer, water heater and well pump circuits
  • Load checks before electrification projects
  • Coordination with HVAC installers
